Significance of the 2016 Environmental Report

Significance of the 2016 Environmental Report

Today's global environmental issues include higher temperatures, which cause heat waves and droughts. On the other hand, there are heavy rains and significant snow levels that create flooding and avalanches. In Japan, as well, we are facing stifling heat, setting new record highs almost every year, and the related health issues such as heat stroke. Man-made global warming is catching up with us, clearly having an ever-greater impact on people's lives. To mitigate climate change, the Paris Agreement, a worldwide accord, has been adopted, but we cannot wait for that plan; we must take action to deal with global warming now.

As a corporate citizen of ポーカー 賭博arth, the JAE Group benefits from the global environment, and as such, the Group must respond flexibly to environmental problems like these. We have therefore established the JAE Group Environmental Policy (click here to review ポーカー 賭博nvironmental Policy) for Group members both in and outside of Japan. We are committed to taking action on global warming, environmental protection and pollution prevention.

I would like to review ポーカー 賭博nvironmental activities we have undertaken based on this policy.

ポーカー 賭博nvironmental activities we conducted in fiscal 2015 prioritized measures to address global warming. As such, we have sought to reduce materials and chemical substances used, pursued green procurement and eco-friendly design, and developed initiatives to cut the volume of waste materials. We have been able to achieve our goals in each of these categories.

In fiscal 2015, acting on the conviction that the Group must work as one to comply with evolving environmental laws and regulations, we worked to build an effective action framework to drive efficient environmental initiatives for Japan's revised Fluorocarbons Act.*1 Looking back, we saw good results in activities, such as ポーカー 賭博uot;visualization of water resources,ポーカー 賭博uot; ポーカー 賭博uot;raising the recycling rate of waste materials,ポーカー 賭博uot; ポーカー 賭博uot;enhancing the functionality of our chemical substances data base,ポーカー 賭博uot; ポーカー 賭博uot;commencing the response team for the EU's revised RoHS directive,ポーカー 賭博uot; ポーカー 賭博uot;environmental safety assessment integration,ポーカー 賭博uot; and other topics.

1* Act on Rational Use and Proper Management of Fluorocarbons (abbreviated as the Fluorocarbons Law) was a law intended to rationalize the use of fluorocarbons and improve the way they are managed. It was revised in 2015.

In measures to fight global warming, we sought to to ポーカー 賭博uot;mitigateポーカー 賭博uot; issues and ポーカー 賭博uot;adaptポーカー 賭博uot; to its impact (use cursor to view definition). We also moved forward with plans to reduce crude oil conversion energy use and streamline energy use at each Group company. From the latter half of fiscal 2015, however, a decline in production associated with reductions brought on by global economic conditions and other factors meant that we were only able to slightly improve energy usage per unit (use cursor to view definition). Initiatives including starting to insulate production equipment at production sites and installing inverters on existing equipment, as well as using compressed air more efficiently to streamline production processes, and we continue to make enhancements. In addition, we are looking at ways to build an even more efficient infrastructure that will not be influenced by the status of business activities.

Turning to our environmental management system, we have continued to renew our ISO 14001 certification since fiscal 2005, when we implemented our multi-site framework in Japan. In 2015, the ISO 14001 standard was revised, and we therefore intend to pursue a management system, both simple and able to generate maximum effect, that is even further integrated with our management activities, as we move toward the standard's registration transfer period in 2018.

Looking ahead, with our customers, partners and all of the other many associated people, we will work as one to lower environmental impact and operate our system in order to ensure that our environmental preservation activities are effective.

This environmental report summarizes our fiscal 2015 environmental activities. As we look to raise the bar even higher on our environmental efforts in the future, we look forward to every opportunity for a free and frank exchange of views with our stakeholders.
